2017 Dove Awards – The Nominees

It’s that time of year again! When all your favorite artists get together to celebrate the accomplishments of their fellow artists…the Dove Awards! Here are the nominees!!

The Dove Awards winners won’t be announced until October, but we have nominees this week, so let the guessing begin!

Below I’ve listed some of the major categories and will notate who I think will be the big winner! Then, after the winners are announced, we’ll see how close I was! 🙂

Here we go:

SONG OF THE YEAR (alphabetical order by song title):

  • “Chain Breaker” – Zach Williams
  • “Come Alive (Dry Bones)” – Lauren Daigle
  • “Even If” – MercyMe
  • “Eye of the Storm” – Ryan Stevenson
  • “Feel Invincible” – Skillet
  • “Great Are You Lord” – One Sonic Society
  • “King of the World” – Natalie Grant
  • “O Come to the Altar” – Elevation Worship
  • “The Lion and the Lamb” – Big Daddy Weave
  • “Thy Will” – Hillary Scott
  • “What a Beautiful Name” – Hillsong Worship
    • My thoughts: I think these are all amazing songs, which is maybe why this list seems a bit bloated. 11 songs in one category seems like a bit much. That said, I’m having a most difficult time narrowing it down to (1) song, I think the Top 3 candidates to take this category are; “Chain Breaker”, “Even If”, and “Eye of the Storm”.

CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN ARTIST OF THE YEAR:

  • Casting Crowns
  • Danny Gokey
  • Kari Jobe
  • NEEDTOBREATHE
  • Zach Williams
    • My thoughts: As much as I’m a NEEDTOBREATHE fan, I don’t see them walking away with this category. I think it’ll be a tough battle between Zach Williams and Danny Gokey, and in the end I think Danny Gokey will walk away with it.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR:

  • Chris Tomlin
  • for King & Country
  • Hillsong UNITED
  • MercyMe
  • tobyMac
    • My thoughts: I think this is a tough one…all great artists that made a significant impact in 2016/2017. For whatever reason, for King & Country seems to stand above the rest for me, so I see them walking away with this category.

NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR:

  • Bri (Briana Babineaux)
  • Micah Tyler
  • Social Club Misfits
  • Steven Malcom
  • Zach Williams
    • My thoughts: Hands down…Zach Williams wins this one. Especially if he loses out in another category.

POP/CONTEMPORARY SONG OF THE YEAR:

  • “Priceless” – for King & Country
  • “Come Alive (Dry Bones)” – Lauren Daigle
  • “Even If” – MercyMe
  • “Eye of the Storm (feat. GabeReal)” – Ryan Stevenson
  • “Chain Breaker” – Zach Williams
    • My thoughts: Oh man, another tough one. Top 3 are basically the same Top 3 for “Song of the Year”. Since we’re down to those (3) again, I guess I have to pick one…I’ve gotta go with “Eye of the Storm”, Ryan Stevenson for the win.

WORSHIP SONG OF THE YEAR:

  • “Ever Be” – Aaron Shust
  • “The Lion and the Lamb” – Big Daddy Weave
  • ” O Come to the Altar” – Elevation Worship
  • “What a Beautiful Name” – Hillsong Worship
  • “Fierce” – Jesus Culture
    • My thoughts: I can tell you which one I hopes win, “Fierce”, love that one. However, I believe it’ll be a battle between Big Daddy Weave and Hillsong Worship, with “What a Beautiful Name” rising victorious in this category.

So those are just a handful of the categories in this year’s 48th GMA Dove Awards. You can check out the full list HERE!

Now we wait to see who can pull out the win!
