Afternoons with Don Michael

I Am A Stuffed Animal!

How would you like to have a stuffed doll that looks just like…you?  My sister-in-law Marianne emailed us a link today to a website where they will construct a stuffed “animal” for you, except the image will be the same as whatever picture you send them!  Imagine the possibilities…I could have fun with this idea at Christmas…I mean, who wouldn’t want a stuffed “Donnie” doll?  :-)   What about you?  Would you ever consider getting one of these dolls, created with your image, or with the image of a family member?  I understand there’s also a Groupon connected with this item as well.  Click here to check out the website.

The Last Enemy!

We talked today with Dr. Michael Wittmer, Professor of Systematic Theology at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, about his new book, The Last Enemy. The book is subtitled, “Preparing to Win the Fight of Your Life,” which gives us somewhat of an idea of what the book is about.  Dr. Wittmer shows how death is actually unnatural to the created order, having entered the human experience through sin.  In our discussion, we discover how to come to terms with the reality of death, but also how to “defeat” death by seeing it defeated in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Click on the “play” button below to hear our conversation, and you can also click on the link below to get more information about the book itself.

Daylight Saving Time Begins This Sunday!

Well, it’s that time of year again, when we further abuse our already exhausted bodies by depriving them of yet another hour of sleep (I mean, how many people will really go to bed an hour early tonight to compensate?)!  While I love the concept of Daylight Saving Time (I always appreciate an extra  hour of daylight at night!), I find it very difficult to adjust to the new time that whole first week.  Are you the same way?  Then perhaps like me, you are more of a “night owl” than a morning person.  The article I’ve linked below says that Daylight Saving Time is even tougher to adjust to for those who tend to stay up later.  It has some pretty decent tips on how to beat that first-week fatigue; at any rate, I think you’ll find it interesting.  Just click on the link below for the article.  And don’t forget to “spring ahead” by setting your clock forward one hour before you go to bed tonight!
