WCSG listeners have told us many times that Mark from Downhere sounds like Freddie Mercury from Queen. Check out Mark’s recent audition for a Queen Extravaganza concert. We think he has a pretty good chance of winning…
Person: “Anyone ever tell you you sound like that guy from Queen?”
Me: “No. Never have I ever heard that in my life. Ever.”
Oh my goodness! He could not sound any closer to Freddie Mercury! I sure hope he wins. That would be so cool.
I actually just read about Freddie Mercury, and found out that he died from Aides and was quite a messed up person. Never knew this about him.. Just liked some of the music from Queen. Pretty sad story.
this is awesome if he doesn’t sing for queen he should go on the it factor or IDOL. Man you are awesome and cute.
If you love Marc and the band Downhere, Aaron Shust, and Jason Gray you can seem them all at Kentwood Christian Church on November 6, 2011 for the Called to Love Tour. Tickets can be purchased at iTickets.com.
I just read a story in the Wall Street Journal about Mark’s audition video. It has an interview with Mark and a quote about Queen’s music opposed to Downhere’s music. Quite interesting! His comments were very powerful! http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2011/09/23/marc-martel-channels-freddie-mercury/
I just read that Wall Street Journal article Shirley mentioned – it is really good and gives you something to think about – seems like Marc is trying to be salt and light. I believe he is going to be on Ellen next Monday – looking forward to seeing that interview. I was saddened to read in the WSJ article that Downhere doesn’t have many bookings for 2012 – I LOVE this band – they are one of my favorites! Loved seeing them in person when WCSG had them in for the free concert at Fifth Third Ballpark a few years ago. Their song “Here I Am” spoke very powerfully to me during a rough time in my life. I keep lobbying the organizers of Unity to bring them in for Day Zero, but so far no success. I hope they keep making music and touring – they have amazing gifts that our world needs, both in song-writing and singing.
