Kent County Sheriff Larry Stelma has been working in the community for decades but says the time has come to step aside.
In a letter to County Commissioners, Stelma says family health issues have been with him over the last decade. After a lot prayer, consultation with trusted advisors and family, he’s reached the decision that now is the time to leave. He says a lot of work has been done preparing the next generation of leaders and he’s confident they are ready to move the county forward.
Quoting twice from Ecclesiastes, Stelma says he’s considered the task given to him by God has been a gift and while it’s difficult to walk away, he’s confident new leadership will serve the community well.
