Tigers fall again, Leyland suspended, and new player added

Jul 29th, 2010 - Sports News

The Detroit Tigers have lost 9 straight road games. Tampa Bay beat the Tigers 7-4 Wednesday night. The Rays got out of a 7th inning jam for the second consecutive game. Miguel Cabrera got Detroit within 5-4 on his 25th homer this season, a solo shot during the 6th.

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland has been suspended one game and fined by Major League Baseball. He was cited for inappropriate and aggressive conduct during the bottom of the third inning of Monday night's game. Leyand was ejected during an argument in which Leyland said he accidentally sprayed the umpire with sunflower seeds.

The Cleveland Indians have traded third baseman Jhonny Peralta to the Detroit Tigers for minor league left-hander Giovanni Soto. Peralta will likely fill-in for Brandon Inge, the Tigers' injured third baseman.
