6-year-old dies at school Field Day

A kindergartner in the Norton Shores School District collapsed and died on a school playground Monday afternoon. The 6-year-old was involved in Field Day activities at Churchhill Elementary School. His mother was volunteering at the event and went to be with her son. The boy had stayed after his morning class to watch his brother participate in Field Day.
The school contacted parents by phone and email to let them know about the death.
There is no word of any preexisting medical condition but an autopsy will be performed.
A crisis team is on hand today at the school to help students and staff dead with the death.
