4,000-member church branches out to Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) — A 4,000-member west Michigan church has branched out to Battle Creek.
The Valley Family Church of Portage recently opened its Battle Creek branch in the Lakeview Middle School auditorium. Pastors Jeff and Beth Jones began the church in 1991 in Richland with 120 people. They now have about 4,000 people attending weekly services at the central church in Portage. About 300 people attended the inaugural service in Battle Creek.
Richard Pilger, campus pastor for Battle Creek, tells the Battle Creek Enquirer (http://bcene.ws/TcCxGZ) the effort is one church officials have been considering for 20 years.
Pilger says the church, which has rented space at the school from the Lakeview School District for nine months, might extend that lease but also is looking at permanent locations if the congregation grows.
