Roughly 40,000 customers lose power in Mich. storm

— Utilities in Michigan say roughly 40,000 homes and businesses are without electrical service as a storm that hit the nation's midsection moves through the state.
Detroit-based DTE Energy Co. says about 30,000 of its customers are without power Wednesday morning after the storm that hit Michigan starting Tuesday knocked down power lines and tree branches.
DTE says Washtenaw County was the hardest hit, with about 14,000 outages reported. About 6,000 DTE customers lost power in Oakland County.
Consumers Energy reports nearly 9,500 of its customers are without power Wednesday morning. The subsidiary of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corp. says those outages include more than 4,000 customers in Jackson County and 1,700 in the Muskegon area.
The utilities say crews will work around the clock to restore power.
