— Harvard has earned its first NCAA tournament victory with a stunning 68-62 upset of No. 3 seed New Mexico, a team that was widely considered Final Four material. Wesley Saunders scored 18 points to lead the bracket-busting 14th-seeded Crimson, who advance to take on Arizona Saturday.
— Top overall No. 1 seed Louisville opened NCAA tournament play with a dominating 79-48 win over North Carolina A&T. Russ Smith scored 23 for the Cardinals and had eight of Louisville's NCAA tournament record 20 steals.
— Derrick Nix had 23 points and a career-high 15 rebounds yesterday as No. 3 seed Michigan State beat 14th-seeded Valparaiso 65-54 in the NCAA tournament. The Spartans used a 26-5 run in the first half to take control of the game. Ben Boggs led the Crusaders with 15 points off the bench.
— Glenn Robinson III scored 21 points last night as No. 4 seed Michigan topped 13th-seeded South Dakota State 71-56 in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Tim Hardaway Jr. also had 21 points and Mitch McGary added 13 for the Wolverines. Star point guard Trey Burke was held to single-digit scoring for the first time all season.
