The Manitowoc began leaking fuel after docking in Manistee.

A cargo vessel on the big lake near Manistee is leaking fuel.

The spill was discovered when the vessel docked in Manistee yesterday. The M/V Manitowoc was leaking fuel in Lake Michigan near Manistee’s Fifth Avenue Beach. Coast Guard units in Grand Haven and Manistee were deployed to help contain the fuel spill on the water. The Coast Guard says a plug is controlling some of the leakage but there appears to be some fuel leaving the ship.

Booms have been deployed to try and contain the spill on the water.

It’s not known how much fuel was spilled or the reason for the leak.
