Bitter cold temperatures means a greater demand for heat. Consumers Energy is providing some tips to keep those bills from biting our wallets.
Arctic temperatures are going to mean more of a demand for electricity and gas. Consumers Energy is offering tips to try and keep those costs down for customers.
First, preparedness is key. Making sure there are extra blankets around the house can also provide a little extra comfort without expending any more resources to bump up the furnace. Sweaters and hoodies can also be added to give a little more heat.
Make sure windows are properly insulated. That also relates to doors and other entrances. You may have already put up additional protections such as plastic or window kits. These can certainly keep any drafts from cutting into the warmer spaces.
Another effective way to keep warm air circulating would be to lower ceiling fan speeds. This will allow warm air to move throughout the room without diluting the temperature quickly.
Do remember safety tips for our pets too. Don’t keep your pets outside too long when it’s cold. Make sure their paws are protected from salt.
