Despite multiple efforts to save the company, the fabric and craft store became a victim of more than financial issues.
Despite multiple attempts to save the business, this retailer is saying goodbye.
After more than 80 years in business, Joann Fabric will be closing their doors. The company had announced earlier they were looking to close around 500 stores. Now the fabric store entered bankruptcy protection in January after another bankruptcy order was instituted last year.
The company has approximately seven stores in the West Michigan area, including Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek.
Following a weekend of an auction to buy up the companies assets and attempt another restructuring, company owners say they have tried multiple avenues to try and restructure, but after this weekend they were unable to find another way out.
Company spokespersons say the retailer will begin liquidation sales soon, and information will be posted on their website.
Joann’s Fabric was not just a retail outlet, but also known for offering classes as well as building social groups around the crafting community.
