The organization announces a massive goal of more affordable and available housing in Kent County.
Another local agency plans to build more housing units in Kent County in the next few years. Habitat Kent County announced the “Imagine Campaign,” a plan to build or rehabilitate 100 housing units in the next three years.
According to the campaign, "a significant housing shortage in our community exists, coupled with rapidly increasing housing prices is creating an affordability issue for many households with low incomes and first-time homebuyers." In addition, the organization says housing demand is up significantly in both Grand Rapids and Kent County.
Coupled with this, Kent County is the 5th worst county in the nation for equitable homeownership.
The task is great for the organization, and construction will be a huge step as the organization says they normally build 10-20 new homes a year.
The campaign has already raised close to six million dollars, or about three-quarters of the way to their total goal. If you'd like more information, visit Habitat Kent County.
