Some parts of West Michigan could get up to a foot of new lake effect snow from a storm system that arrives Friday morning and continues into Saturday.
-Winter weather alerts are in effect from the Plains to the Midwest ahead of another major winter storm. Blizzard conditions with heavy snow and strong winds could impact major cities such as Chicago and Milwaukee which will them impact parts of Michigan.
This storm system brought nearly a foot of snow and whiteout conditions to parts of the Plains.
WOODTV-8 is reporting that everyone in our area will see 10 inches or more of snow from this storm Friday into Saturday. Some may see as much as a foot and a half. Sustained wind speeds will be in the 20-40 mph range, which will cause significant reductions in visibility.
Temperatures will plummet. Highs will struggle to make it into the teens beginning Sunday and the deep freeze could hold for more than a week. During the arctic blast, wind chills will frequently dip below zero. Some communities near the Indiana state line could see wind chills dip below -20 degrees at times.
There could be a number of power outages connected with this storm system. Consumers Energy says they are still finishing up and restoring power to those impacted by the Tuesday storm. Crews will be on alert and ready to begin repairs when they are able to.
Consumers Energy is monitoring a second strong storm system expected to bring several inches of widespread snow and strong winds to many areas Friday and Saturday.
