Lawmakers pass a stopgap funding bill to avert a shutdown and extend the government funding for a few more months.
It was hours before the Thursday deadline and Pres. Biden signed a temporary spending measure.
There will not be a partial government shutdown after the House and Senate successfully voted to keep the government funded through Dec. 3.
The short-term spending resolution will spare thousands of federal workers from being furloughed.
It also provides funding for afghan refugees and disaster relief.
Despite the win, lawmakers failed to add a provision on raising the debt ceiling, which would extend how much the government can borrow.
The treasury secretary has urged Congress to act on the debt ceiling before Oct. 18 to avoid defaulting on the government’s current debts.
But Republicans say if Democrats want to raise it, they can do it themselves.
The funding will also deliver disaster aid for Americans battered by storms and wildfires this summer.
