It is a federal holiday. Today is Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day.

Columbus Day is a state and federal holiday.  The federal holiday is meant to celebrate the so-called discovery of the Americas by Italian explorer Christopher Columbus.

Post offices will be closed and no mail will be delivered by the U.S. Postal Service.

The Federal Reserve is observing Columus Day and that means most banks will be closed.

Government offices may be closed and some schools will be closed.

Retail will most likely be open.

Stock markets will trade as usual.

Today is also recognized as Indigenous Peoples' Day.  It is a holiday honoring the past, present and future of Native peoples across the country.  It is intended for reflection on the legacy and impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities, while also celebrating cultures, resilience and more.
