The UAW orders Stellantis Sterling Heights Assembly Plant to go out on strike.
DETROIT, Mich. - There are now more than 40,000 UAW automaker members that are on strike and taking turns walking the picket lines. The strike is nearing the six-week mark.
Monday morning, UAW President Shawn Fain announced that the UAW would be expanding their strike to include the Stellantis Sterling Heights Assembly Plant and some 6,800 workers walked off the job to join the picket line.
The Sterling Heights plant is Stellantis’ largest plant where it builds the popular Ram 1500 light-duty pickup trucks.
Stellantis, which owns Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Fiat brands, produced more than 216,000 vehicles in the first eight months of this year, or 15.82% of its North American production.
Shawn Fain was adamant last week that the Big Three automakers can still offer more and they plan to hold out to see their demands met. The union said it took the step because "Stellantis lags behind both Ford and General Motors in addressing the demands of their UAW workforce."
