-You could see more people wearing the color red today. Landmarks across the country also could be lit up red.
The goal is to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke among women.
The first Friday of February is National Wear Red Day, Go Red for Women.
Data shows that 1 in 3 women will pass away from heart disease.
87% of all heart issues are believed to be preventable and therefore awareness, education, research and resources are very important.
Cardiologists say that many women are busy and can often miss the signs of a heart attack. Some signs include: low exercise tolerance, back pain, heartburn, feeling sick, anxiety, racing heart, heartburn, sweating with a cold clammy feeling, or heart palpitations.
This year, the American Heart Association is encouraging women to prioritize one healthy habit – it could be around sleep, stress, physical activity, or nutrition – and encourage others to do the same. It’s important for women to pay attention to the little things with their health to get ahead of the main issues.Today is also a good reminder to know your blood pressure numbers and make your yearly appointments.
