Grand Rapids could get a new elementary school to house Aberdeen and Palmer students.
(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.) - The Grand Rapids School Board of Education met Monday to talk about a plan that would call for a new school building to be constructed at the site of Aberdeen Academy on the NE side.
The district says they want to make sure they are offering state of the art options for all students.
If approved, it would be the first school built in that area since 1965 and could open in the fall of 2027.
The building would house students from Aberdeen and Palmer Elementary. Some families of those school buildings have expressed concerns about the distance from their neighborhoods.
The school board said they gathered feedback from more than 200 parents and scholars. Most say they like the idea of an updated building but say will miss the historic building and architecture.
The planned school would cost $35 million and funding would come from a bond that was passed by voters in November 2023.
