Mel Trotter Ministries in Grand Rapids celebrated the completion of some major facility upgrades to better serve the homeless population.
(Grand Rapids, Mich.) - Mel Trotter Ministries held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning at their main facility on Commerce Avenue southwest of Fulton Street in downtown Grand Rapids.
The ministry, that provides help for the homeless population, was celebrating a nearly $15 million project that includes an overhaul of their sleeping accommodations. The changes and upgrades will make it feel more like a home setting. There are smaller dorms for more privacy and additional family-friendly spaces.
They also expanded their medical clinic. The additional space will allow them to help more people and address additional needs. They are expanding partnerships with area health organizations which will allow them to offer services that will include dental, vision, medical and behavioral help.
The layout inside the Mel Trotter facility hasn’t changed much since it moved there in 1968 and the renovations have been years in the making.
Mel Trotter says the project was funded by private donations and organized philanthropy.
