After a shortened season in 2023, the SS Badger plans to set sail a month earlier than first thought.
The SS Badger will resume operations a month ahead of schedule. The company will open for the season on May 17th, starting its 71st season.
The ferry halted service mid-summer of 2023 due to mechanical issues. An issue with the “lifting structures” that crews use to load vehicles on and off board the vessel fell into Lake Michigan. An initial assessment suggested the repairs could have been made quickly. However, further investigation led to the company holding off on operations in mid-July.
The ship has carried over two million passengers. The Badger is over 600 feet long and can haul 180 vehicles, including; RVs, motorcycles, motor coaches, and commercial trucks.
Onboard is where the fun really picks up. There are games and activities for both individuals and for families. Dining facilities serve meals throughout the day and feature snacks and drinks. You can take those snacks up to the front or rear of the ship to take in the scenic views of Lake Michigan.
There are also screenings in locations near the front and back of the ship. If you or your little one need a little time away from all the action, there are quiet spaces available to rest.
Trips run daily from Ludington to Manitowoc, Wisconsin. There are two dockings' in both locations on a daily basis.
