At least five shooters may have been involved in a shooting at a High School graduation in Kentwood.
Two people were wounded following a graduation ceremony at the East Kentwood High School.
"This was an obviously brazen act as it jeopordized the safety of many of our community members. Police were already on scene for the event and additional resources were on scene within one minute. This appears to be a targeted shooting and no additional threats towards students or staff have been found."
Kent County Sheriff Michelle LaJoye Young says at least five shooters were involved and two vehicles have been impounded. Young says multiple shots were fired, some striking other vehicles.
About a half hour after graduation ceremonies for students at the Crossroads Alternative High School concluded, a group of individuals was gathered near the parking lot when a suspect vehicle drove up. The car, a white Hyundi, drove by and suspects inside began firing. Young says a short time later, a white Mercedes followed the vehicle and people inside also began firing.
Young says the two groups of shooters may be known to each other.
The two people who were struck are expected to recover.
Around 400 people were in attendance of the ceremony for students at the Crossroads Alternative High School graduation.
