For the fourth straight week severe weather and tornadoes do damage across the Plains.

Multiple towns are heavily damaged in the Plains after a powerful round of severe storms struck the region, killing at least one person and injuring several others.

The town of Barnsdall, Oklahoma, was struck by a large tornado and the damage to structures is severe. At least one person died, according to the Osage County Sheriff, and numerous others were injured. A nursing home was also hit by the twister and residents are being relocated. The town of 1,000 is located about 40 miles north of Tulsa and was also struck by an EF1 tornado on April 1.

According to KSDK.com, the storms marched east early Tuesday and radar-confirmed tornado with a debris also struck near the town of Sullivan, Missouri.  A number of structures were damaged.

The storms began earlier Monday with gusty winds and rain. But after dark, tornadoes were spotted skirting northern Oklahoma. At one point in the evening, a storm in the small town of Covington had “produced tornadoes off and on for over an hour,” the National Weather Service said. Throughout the area, wind farm turbines spun rapidly in the wind and blinding rain.

In Kansas, some areas were pelted by apple-sized hail 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) in diameter.

Crews spent the night and early morning hours searching for those who may have been trapped.

The entire week is looking stormy across the U.S. The eastern U.S. and the South are expected to get the brunt of the bad weather through the rest of the week, including in Indianapolis, Memphis, Nashville, St. Louis and Cincinnati, cities where more than 21 million people live. It should be clear over the weekend.
