New athletic shoes will be distributed to Kent County elementary students at De Vos Place this week.
-The SHOES (Shoes Help Our Elementary Students) Program began in 1996. In The Image identified that the beginning of the school year can be a costly time for already struggling families. We saw the opportunity to step in and support children as they embark on their new school year, instilling them with confidence, joy, and the tools they need for success.
This year, the SHOES Program requires nearly 600 volunteers and over $100,000 of support. In addition to providing a free pair of athletic shoes, The Program includes free services such as vision screenings and dental checks. There are also area businesses and nonprofits present to connect families to area resources that help support healthy families and healthy kids.
The event runs through Saturday, August 3, with varying hours each day:
- Tuesday, July 30: 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, July 31: 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Thursday, August 1: 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Friday, August 2: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Saturday, August 3: 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
