Many spent the weekend cleaning up following severe storms from last week. Many yard waste sites are open for tree debris.
KENT COUNTY, Mich. - Clean up efforts will continue for the next week or so following severe storms that also included an EF1 tornado that touched down north of Grand Rapids last Thursday evening.
Winds were estimated at up to 110 mph.
Many are without power. Consumers Energy says some in the hard hit areas will get their power back by later today.
Damage was done to local homes and businesses and many residents have started removing downed trees and branches.
Debris that originated from trees outside the right-of-way are their responsibility to dispose of properly and the Road Commission will not be disposing of yard waste that has been thrown into ditches of moved to the side of the road.
Kent County has opened some locations for residents to drop off debris:
