The number of West Nile cases has spiked recently.
The number of West Nile Virus cases has more than doubled over the past two weeks.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reports 19 human cases of the virus have turned up in the state. Health officials say there is no vaccine or cure for the virus. There are multiple cases in West Michigan.with cases in three counties reported.
Right now there are over six dozen cases of animals infected with the virus.
The overwhelming majority of people who are bitten will not demonstrate any symptoms and will likely recover within a week. However, others may show symptoms of fever, muscle aches, and fatigue. In extremely rare cases, the virus can cause irreparable damage to the nervous system.
Prevention is the best measure so don’t allow water to pond in your yard where mosquitoes populate.
