— The Gerald R. Ford International Airport has been named one of the top 20 best small airports by USA TODAY’s Reader’s Choice Awards.
The awards celebrate the nation’s best attractions and businesses and nominees are determined by a panel of experts, contributors and relevant sources.
Some of the other airports in the competition include Huntsville, Myrtle Beach, Des Moines and Madison, Wisconsin.
The airport recently opened a new expansion of Concourse A, which includes eight new gates, new concession areas and other additions.
Other planned improvements include a new federal inspection station for nonstop international flights, a new rental car building, more parking spaces, and eventually they plan to relocate their air traffic control tower.
All the projects are designed to improve the passenger experience and to help meet the growing demand for flights to West Michigan.
The public can vote in the competition by going to: 10Best website.
Vote once per day until polls close on Monday, October 2 at noon ET.
The 10 winning airports will be announced on Friday, October 13.
