After a 15 month investigation, the University of Michigan has agreed to settle claims of abuse made by athletes in the football, wrestling, and other programs.
Over one thousand claimants will share in almost 500 million dollars as the University of Michigan has agreed to settle with athletes who say they were abused by Dr. Robert Anderson.
Board of Regents Chair Jordan Acker says its’s an important step in healing for the community of victims.
Anderson was part of the University’s medical team for athletes and others. He was accused of multiple acts of inappropriate conduct against male athletes for decades before retiring in 2003. He died five years later.
Athletes claim that Anderson’s actions were well known among student athletes and some had reported the incident to leadership but were ignored.
Acker spoke for just around three minutes in making the announcement. He didn’t take any questions but says more information will be released after the board meets to adopt the agreement next month.
