Thousands will gather to pray and offer support as Sanctity of Life is celebrated across the nation.
Sanctity of Life Sunday is generally recognized on the third Sunday of January.
This year, some church congregations recognized the date on January 16th, but tens of thousands are expected to take this weekend to celebrate life, mourn the loss of others, and work and pray to change the culture of today.
At the time of the original declaration, back in 1984, some denominations were opposed to the date because it was so close to the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion in the United States. Since that time, multiple Presidents have issued a pro-life proclamation. Others have chosen not to issue a statement in support of the pro-life movement.
