1/28/22 - Accused Embezzler Dies in Custody

Brian Wheeler was found unresponsive last night in the Ottawa County Jail.

The former assistant superintendent for Grand Haven Area Public Schools, accused of embezzling nearly $1 million from the district, passed away at the Ottawa County Jail.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said around 8 last night, 56-year-old Brian Keith Wheeler was found unresponsive.   Staff tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead. 

An exact cause of death has not been released.

Michigan State Police will be conducting an investigation.  No other information is being released at this time.
