Rate increases for water and sewer were announced today by Grand Rapids city leaders.
If you live in the city of Grand Rapids, know that your water and sewer rates are probably on their way up. Jenessa Carter with the city says those rates appear high, but…
"Annual inflation through September of this year was 5.39%, so both systems are well below the inflationary level at this current time."
Both water and sewer rates will see a roughly four percent increase, or an extra 32 dollars annually.
Carter says the rates are affected by several factors, including weather, usage by both customers and communities, and the results of upgrades to the entire system.
The system services multiple communities at both retail and wholesale rates.
