Today is Election Day...Polls are open 7am - 8pm.
May 3, is Election Day in Michigan.
Absentee ballots need to be dropped of in-person to make sure they arrive in time and get counted.
Those needing more information about their ballot or polling location can find it on the Sec. of State Election website.
West Michigan voters will decide a special election for a state House seat. There is a 3-way race to decide who will fill a vacant seat in the 74th House District. The winner will only serve about 8 months.
Also on the ballot will be proposals that may impact school districts and other areas of their communities, such as:
Kalamazoo County:
-Public schools have a proposal on the ballot which would pay for a new elementary school building and make other upgrades. The bond would not raise taxes because the old debt has been paid off.
Kent County:
-Wyoming voters will decide on 2 proposals that would allow them to hire more firefighters & police officers and further invest in their parks. They also will present a bond to renovate the Jr. High School.
-Greenville will consider a bond that would fund a new elementary school playground and provide other upgrades for their school system.
Ottawa County:
-Several school districts are asking their voters to approve an operating millage, communities like: West Ottawa, Grand Haven, Coopersville, Zeeland, Hudsonville, & Jenison.
Muskegon County:
-Residents will decide on a millage increase to raise more money for educating students with disabilities.
