We could see a downtown ampitheater in Grand Rapids along the river. Planning Commissioners voted to approve a special land use permit for the proposed 12-thosuand seat outdoor venue.
The venue along the Grand River has been proposed before but land issues halted any progress.
Some area residents expressed concerns over noise and parking. The concerns centered around parking spaces and the influx of traffic to the area. Some residents believe the amount of traffic will impact their ability to move, as well as potential problems with outside residents trying to park in whatever space they can find.
The city has countered saying there are 18-thousand spaces in the nearby area, giving enough space for everyone. The city also says berms will be included in an effort to dampen the sounds.
The city could buy the property later this summer.
