Thousands will make their way to Grand Haven this next week to celebrate those who work to keep the Great Lakes safe.
GRAND HAVEN, MI - The city of Grand Haven is known as "Coast Guard City, USA."
Each year the city celebrates the men and women who serve the U.S. Coast Guard with a 10-day festival.
This year's festival kicks off Friday, July 29 and continues through Sunday, August 7th.
Event highlights include:T
- Cardboard Boat Race Competition: 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 30 at the Lake Michigan Waterfront Stage.
- The Kids Parade: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 30
- Cruise-In Car Show: 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Sunday, July 31, at the Coast Guard Park in Ferrysburg.
- Parade of Ships: 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, from the boardwalk or pier.
- Ship Tours: Monday-Saturday, Aug. 2-6, at Escanaba Park, 673 S. Harbor Drive.
- Carnival: Tuesday, Aug. 2- Saturday, Aug. 6, hours vary. Located downtown in Harbor Front and Covenant Life parking lot. $25 armband required.
- Seniors Day: Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Mulligan’s Hollow.
- Walk of Coast Guard History: Noon Friday, Aug. 5, at Grand Haven City Hall.
- Grand Parade: 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6.
- Fireworks Extravaganza Show: at dusk on Saturday, Aug. 6.
