Kalamazoo County sheriff's deputy Ryan Proxmire died in the line of duty last week and will be honored during a service on Sunday.
The Memorial Service for Deputy Ryan Proxmire will take place on Sunday, August 22, in Kalamazoo.
Proxmire was shot on August 14th near Galesburg while chasing a suspect who fired from a vehicle. He passed away the next day as a result of his injuries. The suspect lead deputies on a chase until he crashed into a field near Climax. The suspect fired at deputies and when they returned fire, the suspect died.
The Governor is asking that our flags be lowered to half staff on Sunday, the day of Proxmire's memorial service.

On Sunday morning there will be a private family service and then around 11 a.m. a procession of police, members of the fire department, and EMS vehicles that will escort Sgt. Proxmire and his family to Miller Auditorium for a 1 p.m. memorial service that will be open to the community. Miller Auditorium will open its doors at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday to begin seating.
Those wishing to pay their respects may stand along Stadium Drive between 9th and Howard Street.
There will be extra traffic along Stadium Drive and around the campus of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo on Sunday.
