State Police report that at least one person died in a crash that closed a portion of US-131 near Kalamazoo Tuesday evening,
OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was killed and his wife was hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash on US-131 near Kalamazoo Tuesday night.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. on northbound US-131 near Stadium Drive in Oshtemo Township.
Michigan State Police said a Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading southbound on US-131 when the driver lost control, crossed the median and struck an oncoming semi-truck and then a Honda Accord. Investigators believe the driver was trying to avoid hitting a deer before losing control.
The driver of the Jeep, 34-year-old Brian Klintworth of Otsego, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, 30-year-old Krystal Klintworth, was sitting in the front seat and taken to the hospital with injuries state police said are not considered life-threatening.
No one else was injured in the crash.
Northbound US-131 from Stadium Drive to W. Main Street was closed for around three hours but has since reopened.
