Police say suspect fired from rooftop into parade crowd, killing six. Over two dozen treated at local hospitals.
Six people were killed and over two dozen wounded or injured following a shooting at a parade in the Chicago community of Highland Park. Police say the suspect, described as a white male, 18-20 years old with long, black hair, was seen firing from a rooftop near the scene. Police have recovered a rifle but say the suspect should still be considered armed and dangerous.
Several communities nearby in Chicago have cancelled their 4th of July celebrations following the deadly shooting in Highland Park. Several community leaders tweeted that they were cancelling their events “out of an abundance of caution.” Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker says he is monitoring the situation and is making state resources available to the community.
