Maple Sugaring Days is being held the first weekend of March at two farms within the sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will hold the park's first-ever public maple sugaring event this Saturday and Sunday, March 4 & 5.
The Dechow and Olsen farms in the park's Port Oneida Rural Historic District will hold a number of family-friendly events that will give visitors the opportunity to experience the process of making maple syrup.
The Dechow farm will host guided one-mile, and one-hour hikes to see tapped maple trees, sap boing boiled and the historic sugar shack.
The Olsen farm there will be exhibits on maple syrup history and outdoor activities that include ice-shaved maple taffy.
On Saturday, March 4, there will e a community pancake breakfast at the Homestead Resort nearby. Proceeds will benefit Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear.
