Michigan's maritime history is on display this weekend through the Maritime Festival in Alpena.
This week’s WCSG’s Travelin’ Together series hits the water with a unique festival.
The Thunder Bay Maritime Festival of Sail kicks off Friday at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center in Alpena. The celebration of Michigan’s nautical history includes a ton of kid's activities, including face painting, crafts, science demonstrations, and underwater robots. With 10-thousand square feet of interactive exhibits you can explore Michigan’s ‘Century of Shipwrecks’, all from the safety of shore.
If you want to move offshore, there are free deck tours available. For the more adventurous, several boats are offering brief tours for an additional fee. New this year are helicopter tours of the waterways where real shipwrecks lay.
Multiple food and music events are also being offered throughout the weekend.
