Michigan beat Washington to win the NCAA Football Championship title and will celebrate Saturday evening.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The national football champion Michigan Wolverines returned home to Ann Arbor Tuesday night to the applause from fans who had gathered.
They beat the Washington Huskies 34-13 Monday night in Houston and capped off a 15-0 season.
"Thank you so much for being here," coach Jim Harbaugh said. "We had lofty aspirations and high goals, and we never lost sight of them." A number of other players thanked the crowd as well.
Quarterback J.J. McCarthy was greeted with chants of "One more year!" asking the junior to return to help defend the national title in the fall.
A formal celebration will take place Saturday 7 p.m. in Ann Arbor at Chrysler Arena. It will be televised on the Big Ten Network. More information is expected to be released soon.
The Wolverines will open the 2024 season with five straight home games. The Big Ten season will begin with a home game against USC on Sept. 21. Fans will be able to watch Michigan play on four of the five weekends in November.
