The State Houses passes bills that would mean stricter rules for drivers and stricter penalties for those charged with distracted driving.
A package of bills that were passed by the Michigan State House would mean stricter rules on drivers using phones and other electronic devices.
Current law prohibits drivers from reading, typing or sending messages manually on devices being held in one’s hand or lap.
The package looks to modernize the state's laws and would include restrictions on social media usage.
The bills would also include stricter penalties for those charged with distracted driving.
The measures now head to the Senate for their consideration.
