A 15-year old is in custody following a deadly school shooting at Oxford High School.
Three people were killed, six wounded during a school shooting at Oxford High School, about 45 miles north of Detroit.
Robbin Redding is a parent and says her son was very apprehensive about going to school today.
"He was not at school today. He just said that 'Ma, I don't feel comfortable. None of the kids that we go to school with are going today. That’s all he said."
School leaders nor police have said if there was any social media chatter about some type of violence happening at the school today.
Shortly before 5th hour started at the school, an announcement from the principle sounded the shelter in place signal. Students like Jacob, who only gave his first name, say at first students appeared confused about what to do. However, as the moment set in, students and staff began barricading doors, taping over windows, and finding a safe space to hide.
Parents credited teachers with protecting their children, potentially saving lives by following the procedures they've unfortunately had to train for.
The suspect, a 15-year old student was arrested without incident. The Oakland County Sheriff’s office says he is not cooperating with authorities, has invoked his right to silence, and has asked for a lawyer.
Tim Throne, district superintendent, asked for prayers for students and families.
