LANSING, MI — Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson held a press conference this morning to announce advances being made at branch offices.
Benson announced that the state will be adding thousands of appointments at branch offices. There will be 350,000 additional appointment slots for branch offices through the end of September, half of those will be next-day appointments. She says it will increase the number of people the department will be able to serve by 25%.
Greeters will also be added at dozens of the department’s busiest offices to get people helped right way. They will also be able to help schedule a return visit if that is necessary.
Benson also announced that those who are disabled and need some extra help will be prioritized when they visit any branch office. Scheduled visits are preferred but not required.
To get an appointment, go to the online booking page or by calling 888.SOS.Mich.
There have been complaints that the system takes months to get an appointment.
She also has asked for $25 million in funding from the Federal Aid package to help make these improvements in Michigan: open offices longer, hire more staff, and make more appointments available.
