Over 200 area schools closed

— Overnight below-zero temperatures are predicted for Michigan as the state braces for the coldest air of winter.
Cold temperatures and slippery roads have led to over 200 area school closings in the West Michigan area.
Meanwhile, DTE Energy still is pecking away at power outages caused by high winds over the weekend. By late afternoon Monday, the utility says 17,000 customers lack power compared to a peak of more than 120,000. Most are in Wayne, Oakland and Livingston counties.
DTE says electricity should be restored to 90 percent of customers before Tuesday as crews work 16-hour shifts.
The National Weather Service says temperatures will fall below zero after midnight around the state. When the wind chill is considered, it will feel like 35 below zero in the western Upper Peninsula.
From Lake Michigan east to the Thumb, high temperatures Tuesday won't get past 15 degrees.
